PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY AT HARRISBURG ENABLES LARGE UBIQUITOUS
WI-FI NETWORK WITH VIVATO TECHNOLOGY
Vivato Wi-Fi Base Stations Enable Campus Innovation, Communication
and Collaboration
SPOKANE, Wash., December 8, 2005 - Pennsylvania State University
at Harrisburg (PSH) has enabled a ubiquitous Wi-Fi network on its
campus property. Two 802.11 b/g Vivato VP2210 Base Stations and
ten VA2200 Microcells were deployed for the installation. This is
one step forward to make the Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg
a competitive campus and allow students to access information using
a broadband network in a convenient and secure way.
Dabis
Camero, senior research engineer at Pennsylvania State University
at Harrisburg (PSH), has been the network designer, installer and
one of the main promoters of the project. "We are very proud
to be the first Penn State University campus deploying an indoor/outdoor
Ubiquitous Wi-Fi Network," said Mr. Camero. "People on
campus are very impressed with the service and the capabilities
of the Vivato Technology."
The Wi-Fi signals inside the thick walls of the University buildings
are being physically enabled through Vivato Microcells and Base
Stations using their Wireless Distribution System (WDS) capabilities
and implementing efficient RF design considerations.
"The new system offers faculty, staff and students a new way
of working, encouraging innovation, communication and collaboration.
It also offers location flexibility and convenience for meetings,
individual and workgroup academic practices, cultural exchange and
parallel networking," said Mr. Camero. "Students believe
it to be a more efficient and effective way to work, and they attribute
great value to mobile computing."
The
Vivato approach to Wi-Fi incorporates phased-array antennas and
a patented PacketSteering technology to provide up to 5 times
the range of competing Wi-Fi AP systems. By requiring fewer components,
a Vivato installation features lower networking and maintenance
costs, dramatically lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
"Vivato is thrilled to work with the Pennsylvania State University
at Harrisburg on their campus Wi-Fi deployment," said Glenn
Booth, Marketing Director, Vivato. "They are one of forward-thinking
universities in the country that are improving campus communication
and collaboration through technology. We are happy to be providing
them greater coverage for considerably less total cost of ownership
than competing solutions."
