GEOWIRELESS AND VIVATO PROVIDE KATRINA RELIEF
Geowireless selects Vivato Wi-Fi Base Stations for Mobile Communications
and Command System; Providing Stable VoIP and Data Communication
Infrastructure
SPOKANE, WA, September 15, 2005 -GeoWireless, a wireless-anywhere
provider, has teamed with Vivato, Inc., a leading provider of extended-range
Wi-Fi solutions, to dispatch mobile communications systems
to the Mississippi Gulf coast and surrounding areas to provide Hurricane
Katrina relief assistance. On August 30th, 2005, federal government
officials requested the assistance of GeoWireless to provide mobile
voice and data solutions in the Gulf region. In two days, GeoWireless
had "feet on the street" and state-of-the-art mobile network
communications fully functional. GeoWireless, with their teaming
partners Vivato, WareOnEarth Communications and Agiosat, brought
full DS-3 satellite services and large coverage Wi-Fi wireless access
to support Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony and data communications
to the federal government's relief and communications efforts.
The devastation in the Gulf has severely impacted voice and data
communications for the residents of Mississippi and Louisiana in
every aspect of life. Communications and coordination of resources
is critically important to stabilizing this area and providing logistical
data and information to fulfill the needs of the region. GeoWireless
President, John Hearton, stated, "We're honored to be able
to help the region with some of the services that people typically
take for granted. This effort is essential to improving quality
of life and providing the government with vital communications capabilities
needed to support environmental issues, and could even help save
lives. We want to do what we can to support the revitalization of
the region".
This
effort was not done solely by GeoWireless. Mr. Hearton added, "When
we needed to respond, our partners rose to the call of action. I
cannot tell you how impressed I was with the response from our partners.
The service that the government received was second to none. Within
30 minutes of arriving, the team was able to make VoIP phone calls
over the mobile system." Mr. Hearton stated, "This is
the type of service our customers have come to expect, and our engineers
live up to that reputation and commitment with every deployment."
Vivato provided Wi-Fi base stations that enabled the mobile communication
system to extend a large Wi-Fi hot zone over several miles. By using
several of these base stations, GeoWireless was able to provide
a wireless broadband zone that gave internet connectivity to government
officials and supported the use of VoIP phones for voice communications.
"We selected Vivato because their unique Wi-Fi solution gave
us such a large coverage area while providing full 802.11g 54Mbps
connections. These voice and data applications require large bandwidth
and coverage," Mr. Hearton said, "Any of the regular mesh
access point solutions out there would have limited the coverage
area that we could support and usually have much smaller bandwidth."
"We are very happy to help GeoWireless with Katrina relief
efforts", said Glenn Booth, Director of Marketing for Vivato.
"We are also grateful that our technology can be used to help
rebuild the Gulf region. Our extended-range Wi-Fi base stations
are a perfect fit for high bandwidth, rapid networks that need to
be quickly deployed." Booth said.
