TW-AIRNET SELECTS VIVATO TO LIGHT UP ONE OF ASIA'S LARGEST WI-FI
DEPLOYMENTS
Vivato Wi-Fi Base Stations Accelerate Construction of Wireless
Infrastructure in Taiwan
SPOKANE, WA, August 22, 2005 -Extended-range Wi-Fi technology
from Vivato is bringing wireless broadband to residents, businesses,
and visitors in Taiwan. TW-Airnet, of Taichung, Taiwan, is initially
installing 42 Vivato Base Stations throughout the major cities in
Taiwan, including Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung, to provide enormous
Wi-Fi Hot Zones.
"Providing this wireless broadband technology to our citizens
will dramatically change the way they work, play and communicate"
said Liang CHEN, Executive VP at TW-Airnet. "Broadband technology
will enable economic growth and in many areas, provide residents
with Internet access for the first time. This is a major event in
Taiwan since there is limited broadband Internet access available
today."
Liang CHEN said the Taiwan build out will start with the top 5
cities in Taiwan, where TW-Airnet has access to over 2,200 pre-selected
sites and roof tops for installation of the Vivato base stations.
Each of the 5 cities will have an initial hot zone of approximately
8 sq. miles each, and will serve both mobile and stationary customers.
TW-Airnet will also provide customer premise equipment for resident
and business customers.
Jim YU, General Manager at Chu-I Enterprise, a technology integration
partner on this project, said the extended-range capability of the
Vivato Wi-Fi base stations was a large factor in choosing Vivato.
Vivato's system uses phased array antennas and a patented PacketSteering
technology to boost coverage up to 12 times that of competing Wi-Fi
systems. For the initial phase of the deployment in Taiwan, the
coverage area is over 40 sq. miles, which would have required hundreds
of mesh access points.
"The Vivato solution is the only feasible way for us to implement
Wi-Fi. Using an ordinary mesh access point system, we would have
spent twice as much money on equipment, and much more on operating
the network," Jim YU, General Manager at Chu-I Enterprise said
of Vivato's ability to extend the Wi-Fi over large distances. "We
have seen nothing else like this in the industry."
Massimo Armiraglio, Director of International Business Development
for Vivato, said his company was excited to help the build out of
the wireless infrastructure of Taiwan. "We are witnessing our
technology making a big difference in the lives of many people in
Taiwan," Armiraglio said. "It is very satisfying to see
people changing the way they communicate through the use of our
technology."
