VIVATO EXTENDS 802.11G COVERAGE FOR LARGE VENUES WITH NEW INDOOR
WI-FI BASE STATION
Indoor Wi-Fi Base Station delivers industry-leading coverage
with the lowest cost of deployment for high data-rate 802.11g networks
SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2004 - Vivato, a leading provider
of wireless networking equipment, today introduced the 802.11g Indoor
Wi-Fi Base Station, the VP2200.
The VP2200 employs Vivato's smart antenna technology based on its
patented PacketSteering technology to extend 802.11b and 802.11g
signals up to 12 times farther than industrial-grade access points.
Just three inches deep, the two foot-by-two foot Vivato Wi-Fi Base
Station is easily-mountable in a corner or on a wall, making it
perfectly suited for large-scale indoor deployments at warehouses,
shopping malls, airport and train terminals, university auditoriums
and libraries and sports venues, hotels and resorts.
"One of the challenges of Wi-Fi is that the coverage degrades
at higher data rates," said Philip Marshall, Director, Wireless/Mobile
Technologies at The Yankee Group. "By focusing the radio signal
toward the Wi-Fi users, Vivato's intelligent antenna solution offers
improved coverage and data speeds. This is a key requirement for
large Wi-Fi deployments."
The VP2200 operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, supporting both
the 11 Mbps and 54 Mbps data throughput rates of 802.11b and 802.11g,
respectively. In addition, the new Vivato Indoor Wi-Fi Base Station
features industry-leading security, with support for both WPA and
802.11i. Cutting-edge applications, such as high-power Power over
Ethernet, are also supported by Vivato's second-generation device.
"Designing and implementing 802.11g deployments in large areas
such as universities, hotels and warehouses, with standard access
points is a lengthy and expensive process, with repeated site surveys,
extensive wiring and large numbers of APs required," said Dave
Fanning, CEO of Elandia Solutions, a Vivato Value Added Reseller.
"The Vivato Indoor Wi-Fi Base Station offers maximum Wi-Fi
coverage and range, and will allow us to quickly deploy cost-effective
high-speed wireless access networks to large venues that require
bandwidth-intensive support for their applications."
The VP2200 will be available through Vivato OEMs, Systems Integrators
and Value Added Resellers in this summer.
"We leveraged our smart antenna technology in the VP2200 802.11g
Indoor Wi-Fi Base Station to maximize performance and cost savings
for large-scale indoor wireless networks," said Siavash Alamouti,
chief technology officer for Vivato. "The VP2200 demonstrates
our continued commitment to technology innovation."
Vivato will demonstrate the VP2200 at booth 2531 at Networld+Interop
next week.
