VIVATO RECEIVES FUNDING FROM INTEL COMMUNICATIONS FUND
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - March 10, 2003 - Vivato,
a wireless networking infrastructure company and creator of Wi-Fi
switching, today announced that it is receiving an investment from
the Intel Communications Fund. The companies also plan to participate
in joint marketing activities.
The investment by Intel Communications Fund is part of its $150
million commitment to invest in companies whose technologies will
accelerate the worldwide adoption of Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) wireless
networks.
The Intel Communications Fund joins an already powerful investment
team of Leapfrog Ventures, U.S. Venture Partners and Walden International,
Silicon Valley Bank and GATX, bringing the total investment in Vivato
to $29 million.
The funding from the Intel Communications Fund will help Vivato
accelerate product development and expand sales and marketing activities.
Vivato is manufacturing Wi-Fi switches that offer a new way to deploy
high bandwidth Wi-Fi networks for enterprises and service providers.
"Intel is committed to proliferating Wi-Fi capabilities worldwide,"
said Sean Maloney, Intel executive vice president and general manager
of the Intel Communications Group. "This investment is part
of Intel Capital's strategy of building an ecosystem of complementary
technologies that help drive demand for Intel's mobile computing
products. Vivato's technology has the potential to significantly
increase Wi-Fi coverage and allow wireless connection in places
previously unreachable by broadband."
"Vivato and Intel share a vision for Wi-Fi everywhere,"
said Ken Biba, Vivato CEO and chairman. "Wi-Fi switching will
quickly accelerate the expansion of the Wi-Fi footprint and support
a multitude of wireless applications that will truly change our
professional and personal lives."
Wi-Fi switching is a new architecture for wireless local area networks
that combines gigabit Ethernet switching, Wi-Fi and smart antenna
design to send and receive multiple transmissions simultaneously.
Vivato's recently announced 2.4 GHz Indoor Wi-Fi Switch is a flat
panel that integrates security, management and deployment tools
with Vivato's patent-pending PacketSteering technology to
extend the reach of wireless networks from meters to kilometers.
